The April 26th...

 Yesterday was the commemoration of the start of Portugal's democratic transition with the April 25th, 1974 Revolution, a mostly peaceful uprising with a small number of dead (provoked by a shooting out of the headquarters of the then-dictatorship's political police PIDE/DGS), barely any resistance from military defending the then-government and a popular welcoming that lead to flower vendors putting red (and according to the main Captain Salgueiro Maia, white ones as well that were deemphasized by the photographer then for symbolic-ideological reasons).

Next year, I shall make a more proper post on this holiday and its history, but for now, we shall stay with an edited version of a 1977-78 dystopian film, A Confederação -- O Povo É Que Faz a História ("The Confederation - The People Is Who Makes History"), which edits out the science fiction elements and tries to portray the closest possible to the actual events from right after the revolution (what in symbolic Portuguese parlance is known as "the April 26th", as in the time after the April 25th Revolution, as the time before it is known in symbolic parlance as "the April 24th").

 Ontem foi a comemoração do princípio da transição democrática de Portugal com a Revolução de 25 de Abril de 1974, um levante maioritariamente pacífico com um pequeno número de mortos (provocados por um tiroteio a partir do quartel-general da polícia política da-então-ditadura PIDE/DGS), quase sem resistência dos militares defensores do então-governo e uma recepção popular que levou a vendedores de flores a pôr cravos vermelhos (e de acordo com o Capitão Salgueiro Maia, igualmente brancos que foram desenfatizados pelo fotógrafo então por razões simbólico-ideológicas).

Para o ano farei uma publicação mais apropriada sobre este feriado e a sua história, mas por agora, ficaremos com uma versão editada de um filme distópico de 1977-78, A Confederação -- O Povo É Que Faz a História, o qual edita para fora os elementos de ficção científica e tenta representar o mais próximo possível dos eventos actuais de logo após a revolução (o que em vulgo português simbólico é conhecido como "o 26 de Abril", isto é o tempo depois da Revolução do 25 de Abril, como o tempo antes é conhecido em vulgo simbólico como "o 24 de Abril").

Esta remontagem de fã de um filme conta como no passado recente, Portugal é supostamente um país unitário gerido por governos provisórios sob tutela militar durante uma transição para a democracia, mas é de facto constituído por uma associação de diferentes instituições civis e militares e redes paramilitares, que dividem Norte e Sul entre "verdes" (de fardas (para-)militares do Estado Novo e 2/5 da bandeira portuguesa) e "vermelhos" num país em processo de descolonização mas ainda em supervisão das colónias enquanto se descoloniza. Todas as instituições e associações têm zonas de influência específicas, alas do exércitos próximas e distintos meios de comunicação (locais ou emitidos a partir de países capitalistas ou comunistas), que apenas divulgam informação oficial. Cidade sob vigilância, Lisboa é habitada na Primavera de '75 por uma população reprimida e militarizada. Lá estão Maria, técnica das Brigadas Anti-Sísmicas casada (em pesadelos, o marido e ela são mortos na fronteira ideológica de Rio Maior por militares nos dois lados das "barricadas" ideológicas) e com uma filha (a ser doutrinada em marxismo anti-Igreja), e António, segundo-tenente das Milícias envolvido no MFA (recém-libertado por esquerdistas após uma falhada intervenção para acalmar a reforma agrária a começar no sul "vermelho", e que de repente se viu sem apoio tendo o poder que o mandou para o sul virado mais vermelho durante a sua ausência). Se ela é apolítica mas a "gente de bem" pré-Revolução a forçara a um aborto adolescente, ele ainda lida com os traumas da Mocidade Portuguesa e agora não sabe a opressão está nos que dizem ser os fascistas do dia corrente ou no Estado dirigido pelos militares em que em tempos confiara (e agora se mostra incoerente nos valores e com a gente do antigamente ou similares). Entregam-se a um amor subversivo pelos seus postos ao serviço do Estado, natureza adúltera, as discussões políticas que mantêm na véspera das eleições de Abril de 1975, e a sua participação numa pequena dissidência dentro do MFA e do Estado que mais que se revoltar contra o poder da altura, se revolta contra o risco de guerra civil, sectarismo sem limites e bombas que se vive no geral da sociedade.
